Where does the name Mt. Zion come from?

Etymology

Zion is another word for Jerusalem. It is referred also as the City of David (2 Sam 5:7). It is also called Mount Zion because it is set on a mountain on the southeast side of Jerusalem territory.

The word Zion strictly means “parched [dry or thirsty] place.” At Zion, we are ever thirsty for the Word of Truth yet, at the same time, fully satisfied by our relationship with Christ. We like to think of it this way: We have an unending thirst satisfied by an ever-giving fountain of Living Water.

Holiness

Zion is declared to be Holy by the Lord. The heirs of David and the King of Kings are appointed by the Father and set on His “holy hill of Zion” (Psalm 2:7). Psalm 87 declares that “The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God!” Mt. Zion is even the holy place where the Lamb of God stands with the redeemed singing new songs of praise before the throne of God and the Elders of Heaven.

We BelieveWhat We Believe

God. We believe the Scriptures teach that there is one, and only one, living and true God, an infinite, intelligent Spirit, whose formal/proper name is Jehovah, the Maker and Supreme Ruler of heaven and earth; inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all possible honor confidence and love; that in the unity of the Godhead there are three persons, the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Ghost; equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption.

The Church. We believe that "the church" refers to the world-wide collective of people who believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the acceptance of his life, ministry, death, and resurrection - regardless of denomination. We also recognize that "the church" refers to the local collective of disciples who regularly gather to worship, fellowship, encourage, and serve others.

The Scriptures. We believe that the Holy Bible was written by divine inspiration, and is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction; that it has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error for its matter; that it reveals the principles by which God will judge us, and therefore is, and shall remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions shall be tried.

The Way of Salvation. We believe that the Scriptures teach that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace. The Son of God, who by the appointment of the Father, freely took upon him our nature, yet without sin, honored the divine law by his personal obedience, and by his death made a full atonement for our sins. Having risen from the dead, he is now enthroned in heaven; and uniting in his wonderful person the most tender sympathies with divine perfections; he is in every way qualified to be a suitable, a compassionate, and an all-sufficient Savior.

The Freeness of Salvation. We believe that the Scriptures teach that the blessings of salvation are made free to all by the Gospel; that it is the immediate duty of all to accept them by confession and evident in obedient faith. Nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner on earth, but his/her own determined depravity and voluntary rejection of Christ Jesus.
